11 Running Movies: Inspiration For Runners

Updated: Aug 27, 2023

I won't name this list the best or top-running movies as we all have different tastes and interests. What is here, is a mix of movies for those cold winters days or perhaps you just need something motivating. So in no particular order 11 running movies to motivate, inspire, laugh, and make you scratch your head and say no way!

  • Chariots of Fire - I think the opening alone makes this one worthwhile.

  • The Jericho Mile - Peter Strauss and his journey in Folsum Prison.

  • Spirit of the Marathon - Follows 6 runners during the 2005 Chicago Marathon.

  • Desert Runners - Follow runners as they attempt to complete 4 desert ultras.

  • The Barkley Marathons: The Race That Eats Its Young. - One of my favorites and without a doubt one of the toughest races on the planet. Want More? Here is a bonus Barkely movie. Follow Gary Robbins in, Where Dreams Go To Die.

  • Gun Runners - Follow the ups and downs of two Kenyan runners.

  • Boston: The Documentary - A complete look at all things Boston including the tragic events in 2013.

  • McFarland USA - A great underdog story of a tough coach leading a mostly Latino group of students to cross-country dominance.

  • 1 Mile To You - A true love story in more ways than one.

  • Running for Good - Follow Vegan Runner Fiona Oakes as she takes on the tough Marathon des Sables.

  • Run Fatboy Run - Want to win back the love of your life? This may be the way to do it. *Personally, I love this movie and it's one of my favorites on the list.

Please leave a comment or a movie that you find inspiring, motivating, or simply just enjoy.

Happy running!!!
